The quest of the New England Patriots to have a banner 2010 National Football League is facing a huge road block.
NFL superstar cornerback Leigh Bodden, one of the top players of the New England Patriots had been placed on the reserve list due to a shoulder injury.
The loss of Bodden is huge for the Patriots since he led the team with five interceptions last year.
With his injury, Bodden is expected to miss its opening home game against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 12 and probably the rest of the team’s games in the next NFL season.
Bodden earlier suffered the injury earlier in a recent exhibition game between the Patriots and St. Louis Rams where the latter won 36-35.
Without Bodden in its line-up on opening night, the Patriots is expected to to tap first-round draft pick Devin McCourty from Rutgers into a starting spot.
Aside from McCourty, Darrius Butler, a second-round pick from Connecticut is also set to play a big role for the Patriots this year.
The Patriots earlier acquired Bodden in the 2009 NFL season as a free agent after he spend five seasons the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions.
In his last NFL stint, Bodden started 14 of the 15 games he played, returned one interception for a 53-yard touchdown, forced a fumble and recovered another.
Without Bodden in the roster of the Patriots, the Bengals could turn the table on the Patriots in their game.
Now that the news is out that Bodden is out the Rams and the rest of the NFL teams should start mapping its strategy to defeat the Patriots this year.
Despite the loss of Bodden the Patriots management is still confident they could pull it through and have a successful 2010 NFL season.
To NFL bettors it would be safe to pick any of the two in their September 12 meeting.
